Report: Oilers and Draisaitl closing in on long-term deal
Oilers insider Bob Stauffer with a bomb!
According to a report from Edmonton Oilers insider Bob Stauffer, the Oilers and superstar forward Leon Draisaitl are working on a contract extension that would see Draisaitl remain in Edmonton for a long, long time.
On Edmonton's 630 CHED radio station yesterday Stauffer reported that he had been in contact with Draisaitl's agent (former NHL goaltender Mike Liut) and that the two sides are working on, "a 7 or 8-year deal. It’s probably going to be an 8-year deal realistically.”

Other unverified reports indicate that Draisaitl is signing an eight year deal worth $13.5 million per season.

No official confirmation of the term or dollar amount of this contract, but it's worth noting that Stauffer is a very connected Oilers insider. He doesn't peddle in misinformation and when he reports something it's generally a rock solid source. Still, we'll wait until this report picks up traction before we can start reporting on a done deal.
Stay tuned, Oilers fans. If in fact Draisaitl commits long-term to Edmonton, it should bode very well for captain Connor McDavid's future in the city as well.
