Report: Luke Schenn does NOT want to be traded

Finally! Someone who actually wants to stay in Vancouver!

The trade speculation in Vancouver has been high all season long, but with the NHL's trade deadline just over two weeks away things are about to kick into overdrive for the Vancouver Canucks.

Captain Bo Horvat has already been shipped out of town and there are rumors that the likes of Brock Boeser, Luke Schenn, Tyler Myers and Thatcher Demko could all be had for the right price, as well. Most insiders seem to agree that Boeser will be moved, even if Canucks GM Patrik Allvin poured cold water on those rumors today.

From Allvin, courtesy of Canucks insider Ian MacIntyre of Sportsnet:

I think Brock Boeser is still a young player. The team wasn't good off the start from training camp, and Brock had his injury and never really got going. I will say that I think Brock has been playing his best hockey here over the last few games. More energy, better pace, more involved. He's getting his points, and a lot of them are five on five, which is pretty impressive. I still believe that he's a good player, and I don't want to give up on him.

If there is a deal that makes sense for us, we'll definitely look at it. But. . . it's our job to help him. I mean, that's my conversation with the coaches: (How do we) get the best out of every single player? Brock has been very professional. With all the outside distraction, he's been coming into the rink every day with a good attitude and trying to compete and be better.

- Patrik Allvin

To me, this sounds like a GM who is trying to play his cards correctly. He can't just come out and say that he's hoping to offload Boeser because that would seriously affect the player's trade value. The fact of the matter is that Boeser is a valuable player who has mostly underachieved the past couple seasons. He's still worth a decent amount to the right buyer and Allvin knows this. Ditto for Demko, too. He's a very good goaltender who has underperformed this season. There's no sense on giving up on either player at this point.

Myers and Schenn though... game on.

Both players are veteran defensemen who could help literally any playoff team out there. In the case of Myers though, he carries a big ticket ($6 million annually) both this season and next season. It'll require some serious work from Allvin to move Myers.

Schenn though makes just $850,000 and he's slated to become an unrestricted free agent this upcoming offseason. In other words: He's a perfect playoff rental option. The problem is... Schenn doesn't want to go anywhere.

When asked earlier today about the rumors surrounding him, Schenn stated that he's not keen on being moved and would rather remain with the Canucks.

From Schenn courtesy of Canucks insider Brendan Batchelor:

"A couple of years ago, you're just trying to be wanted by anyone. Now you're at the point where you're wanted, and it's a compliment for sure, but you want to be wanted, for me, it's always been to be wanted in Vancouver."

- Luke Schenn

How about that? A player who actually WANTS to stay in Vancouver!?!?!? Sign him to an 8 year contract!
