After weeks of speculation, it appears that Evander Kane will indeed join the Edmonton Oilers and former NHL official turned insider Tim Peel reports that Kane could join the team "as soon as today".

Check it out:

It's worth noting that the NHL has yet to issue a ruling on their latest investigation on Kane... their third investigation into him in the past calendar year. Regardless, NHL insider Frank Seravalli reports that indeed Kane appears headed to Edmonton pending the results of the NHL's investigation.

The Oilers have been linked to Kane since the moment the San Jose Sharks terminated his onerous $7 million annual contract for breaking NHL COVID-19 protocol for the second time this season. Kane was, of course, suspended for 21 games earlier this season after he was found to have issued a fake vaccination card in training camp. He served his suspension and was demoted to the team's AHL affiliate San Jose Barracuda where he allegedly dipped on the team for a team week holiday in his hometown of Vancouver. Upon his return to the team it was revealed that he had travelled while knowingly being COVID-19 positive, which obviously violates the league's protocol as well as international travel mandates.

And all of this is saying nothing about the illegal gambling investigation the league concluded earlier this season and the messy public divorce between him and estranged wife Anna Kane that has played out on social media. Oh... and he was forced to file for bankruptcy due to crazy casino debts, despite the fact that he has earned nearly $60 million over the course of his NHL career. Put mildly, this guy's personal life is an absolute mess.

On the ice though... well that's a different story.

Despite his off ice struggles, Kane has been productive for the Sharks the past few years. He put up 22 goals and 49 points in just 56 games last season and has led the team in goal scoring the past two seasons. Despite what you may think of him as a person, he can still fill the net and that makes him a valuable commodity in the NHL.
