According to a report from NHL insider Pierre LeBrun of TSN and The Athletic, newly minted Nashville Predators general manager Barry Trotz was swinging for the fences in draft day trade talks yesterday.

LeBrun reports that Trotz and the Predators were aggressively trying to move up in the draft from their spot at 15th overall, trying to nab either the 4th or 5th overall pick from the San Jose Sharks or Montreal Canadiens. In particular, LeBrun reports that Trotz offered up 21 year old top goalie prospect Yaroslav Askarov.

Check it out:

It’s believed Trotz offered up 21-year-old goalie prospect Yaroslav Askarov to San Jose and Montreal, which had the No. 5 pick, as part of bigger packages. But no go.

The Sharks and Habs elected to stand pat and instead selected Will Smith (SJ) and David Reinbacher (MTL). It's also worth noting that the Habs selected three goaltenders in the draft on day two.
