Red Wings sign Jake Walman and wrap up NHL arbitration cases

Once again the threat of arbitration forces literally EVERYONE to sign.

The Detroit Red Wings have reportedly re-signed defenseman Jake Walman to a one year, $1.05 million contract.

With Walman's signings, all of the offseason salary arbitration cases are officially closed with literally NO players going through the arbitration process. As is usually the case, teams and players simply using the looming deadline of arbitration to come to terms before actually sitting in front of an arbitrator.

As for Walman, the 26 year old blueliner should provide the Red Wings with some depth this upcoming season and will more often than not see the press box more than the ice. The one way security of his deal though means that he'll still earn his $1.05 million pay check whether he's at the NHL or the AHL level. That's a nice bit of security for a bit of an "in betweener" like him.
