This just in, the Detroit Red Wings have signed 23 year old forward Cameron Hillis to a professional tryout (PTO) contract.
Hillis split last season between the ECHL and AHL playing mostly with the Indy Fuel. In total he put up 16 goals and 40 points in 66 games. He has played just one NHL game with the Montreal Canadiens in 2021-22, going pointless. He was selected by the Habs in the 3rd round (66th overall) of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.
While there's a chance that Hillis makes the Red Wings' main roster at training camp, he'll likely be there to help push some of the team's incoming draft picks. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up securing himself an AHL deal and ends up with the Red Wings' Grand Rapids Griffins affiliate. Stay tuned.
