It hasn't been the season that second year Detroit Red Wings goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic envisioned, to put it frankly. In the six starts that he's racked up so far this season, he's posted a less than pedestrian record of 2-4-2 with a 4.09 goals against average and .880 save percentage.
And in the meantime, the Red Wings made the call to bring back goaltender Magnus Hellberg into the fold, who briefly suited up for them at the end of last season. Many saw it as a potential message being sent to Nedeljkovic to get his game back into gear or else. And now, it appears as though he could in fact be on the trading block.
Nedeljkovic is in the second season of the two year contract that he signed with Detroit last offseason that carries a cap hit of $3 million. With Hellberg in the fold and first year Red Wing Ville Husso having firmly grasped the reins of the starter's role, Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman could elect to do what he does best and swing a deal that would at the very least net his team more draft capital.
We'll see what transpires over the coming weeks and months.
