Bad officiating in sports is an unfortunate reality of life; every team gets victimized by human error once in a while.
But right now, the Detroit Red Wings have a particular bone to pick with the NHL refereeing crew working tonight’s game at Little Caesars Arena.
Seattle forward Jaden Schwartz tossed his stick as Red Wings defenseman Olli Maatta was preparing to get a shot off; Maatta wasn’t able to corral the puck as the stick interfered with his handle on the puck.
Not only was this not penalized, but to add insult to injury, Seattle would score to take a two-goal lead just seconds later.
Come on, guys. There’s no way that two different sets of eyes missed that. The Red Wings have every right to be miffed right now, but because that isn’t a challengeable play, they have to live with it.
Do new rules need to be introduced in order to be able to challenge what was a clear violation of the rules to avoid this sort of thing in the future?
