After Bruce Boudreau was fired as the head coach of the Vancouver Canucks, he revealed that he was not ready to discuss his feelings on how the situation was handled by president Jim Rutherford and general manager Patrik Allvin. However, many insiders and pundits have already analyzed the situation, and according to Frank Seravalli of Daily Face-off, there is a clear culprit to blame in this whole saga that saw Boudreau maintain his position behind the bench while it was confirmed that Rock Tocchet was coming to take over later that week. It all comes down to Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini and how he is shoving his nose a little too deep into the team’s business as the insider explains on Canucks Central on 650.

“The level with which Francesco Aquilini’s involvement has been there from the very start, and it’s not just this coach but every GM and coach over the past decade plus, it’s heavy. And way heavier than almost any other organization.

“The really successful franchises in the NHL don’t have ownership involved in hockey operations decisions at [ Canucks Francesco Aquilini ] level.”

Once the coaching change was made on Sunday, Rutherford apologized for the way it had played out.

“Unfortunately, it’s turned out the way it did. Nobody takes great pride in this,” he said. “I’ve known Bruce for a long time. He’s been a friend and I feel very bad about it. And if I’ve offended anybody in the process, I apologize personally, on behalf of the Canucks.”

Not sure if fans will get a similar apology from Aquilini though… Many of them agreed with the verdict given by Seravalli on how things are being handled in Vancouver, and it sure sounds like a change is needed if a rebuild can be successful for the Canucks.
