There has been plenty of chaos and uncertainty surrounding the New York Rangers today and while that chaos likely won't settle down for at least a few days, we do now have a little more certainty.

According to a report from New York Rangers insider Larry Brooks, the Rangers have in fact traded away captain Jacob Trouba today. Trouba will now become the newest member of the Anaheim Ducks with the return still unclear at this time.

There was no doubt that this change was coming, one way or another, as the Rangers made it abundantly clear on Friday that they were moving on from Trouba by any means necessary.

Trouba is currently in the 6th year of a 7 year contract that carries an average annual value and salary cap hit of $8 million per season.

Trouba has appeared in 24 games for the Rangers this season and has 6 points, all assists, to his name. He currently boasts a plus minus rating of -3.

Update: NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reports the return will be Anaheim Ducks defenseman Urho Vaakanainen as well as a draft pick. Additionally Friedman is reporting that the Rangers have not retained any of Trouba's salary in this deal.

Urho Vaakanainen has appeared in 5 games for the Ducks this season, registering a single point in the form of an assist, and is currently on a 1 year contract with an average annual value and salary cap hit of $1.1 million.

Update: News from NHL insider Chris Johnston has confirmed that the draft pick will be a fourth round draft pick.

Regardless of what you may think of the relatively meager return for the Rangers in this deal I suspect that both the Rangers and their fan base will be extremely satisfied with this trade. Getting positive value in the modern era of the National Hockey League for what amounts to a salary dump of $8 million off the cap, Vaakanainen's contract can be completely buried in the American Hockey League if the Rangers choose to go that route, I suspect will be viewed as a major win in that market.

Stay tuned for more details.
