Rangers fans furious with Gerrard Gallant's lineup decisions.
Many are calling for his head.
It seems as though a segment of the New York Rangers' fan base is not happy with Rangers head coach Gerrard Gallant.
Gallant made a controversial statement on Sunday when he indicated that former Rangers first round pick Vitali Kravtsov would once again be made a healthy scratch for Monday's game against the New Jersey Devils. While Gallant stopped short of explicitly stating that Vitali Kravtsov would once again be on the sidelines, Rangers insider Larry Brooks believes that is exactly what is coming down the pipeline.
Gallant's comments on the subject didn't appear to indicate any different either.
"I like my lineup right now," said the Rangers head coach on Saturday. "I like the kid. Right now he's our extra forward."
Of course many were very quick to call out Gallant's comments about his current lineup following the Rangers' last two games. One of those was a 3-2 loss at the hands of the lowly Anaheim Ducks, while the other was a 4-3 loss to the Edmonton Oilers in which the Rangers blew a 3-0 third period lead.
While criticism of a coach's decisions is pretty routine stuff, the response to today's announcement has been seemingly 100% negative. In fact many fans on social media were openly calling for the coach to be fired.
Even those who offered more level headed responses seem confused by the coach's seemingly head scratching decisions.
Kravtsov has had a checkered relationship with the Rangers since being selected in the first round (9th overall) of the 2018 National Hockey League Entry Draft, even returning to his home country of Russia to play in the KHL after a falling out last year. Gallant's treatment of the young forward certainly won't be improving Kravtsov's relationship with the Rangers anytime soon, and one has to wonder if something may have to give here sooner rather than later.
