Radko Gudas linked to Maple Leafs in trade proposal that get fans nervous!
You want to believe this can’t happen, but then, Toronto might just pull the trigger:
The Toronto Maple Leafs may have added star blue lines in Chris Tanev and Oliver Ekman-Larsson this offseason, some pundits believe they still need to add a punch as Heavy.com suggests the addition of Radko Gudas of the Anaheim Ducks, per Hockey Patrol.
This proposal would potentially involve for the Maple Leafs to trade away Timothy Liljegren and a 2027 first-round draft pick in exchange for Gudas to add him as Toronto’s second-pairing right defenseman. While the veteran defenseman would bring a significant physical presence to Toronto’s blue line, this trade is seen by some as an overpay for the Maple Leafs, especially given Liljegren’s potential and the value of a first-round pick.
Trade proposal
Maple Leafs get: D Radko Gudas
Ducks get: D Timothy Liljegren, 2027 first-round draft pick
The rumors highlight Toronto’s ongoing desire to add more toughness to their defense, which Gudas would certainly provide. He spent 128 minutes in the penalty box a season ago, and was highly effective for the Ducks despite a poor record, ending the season with a +14 differential, and 18 points in 66 games.
However, I simply cannot imagine general manager Brad Treliving accepting this proposal. Sure, Toronto could eventually feel it needs more physicality on the back end around the trade deadline, but it won’t sacrifice a first-round draft selection AND Liljegren in this deal. Especially after inking the latter to a two-year extension. Maple Leafs fans will never accept such a confusing deal.
Fans may be nervous, but I want to believe that the Maple Leafs will never be to part with such assets for Gudas.
