Quinn Hughes busted open one minute into the game.

Quinn Hughes took some damage to his face early on in Sunday's game against the Lightning.

They had to bring out the ice crew to clean up the mess after this one.

On Sunday afternoon, Vancouver Canucks star defenseman Quinn Hughes was left leaking all over the ice when he was on the receiving end of a pretty good shot to the face courtesy of the stick of Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brandon Hagel. Now to be clear Hagel did not intentionally strike Hughes in the face but instead attempted to lift his stick, missing his mark as he did so, and caught Hughes up high when he misjudged the motion.

The damage done to Hughes' face was immediately visible on his face, hands, and on the ice as Hughes was leaking pretty good after the whack to the face, and it was severe enough that it forced the Canucks blue liner to head back to the locker room for repairs. Hughes would eventually return to the game however, but when he did so he was wearing a full cage rather than merely a protective visor on the ice.

We likely won't know the full extent of the damage done to Hughes' face until the game has wrapped up, but it is safe to say that he won't be missing time as a result of his injury when you consider the fact that he is actively playing in the game right now.

Hopefully this one hasn't cost him any teeth, and I wish him all the best when it comes to healing up from whatever damage has been done.
