Quinn Hughes breaks a 30 year old NHL record.

On Saturday night, Vancouver Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes raised the bar ever so slightly when he passed a legendary former National Hockey League defenseman to take one of his spots in the NHL record books.

Hughes did it by becoming the fastest defenseman in the history of the National Hockey League to reach the 200 point plateau, a title that was previously held by New York Rangers legend Brian Leetch. It is an incredible record for Hughes to claim given that Leetch set his mark all the way back during the 1991-92 NHL regular season, and it has stood the test of time this long.

What makes the new record by Hughes so impressive is how remarkably close the two men were in their accomplishments. When Leetch claimed the record he did so by reaching 200 points in 264 games and Hughes only just managed to squeak by him by doing it 1 game faster, reaching the 200 point plateau in his 263rd NHL game.
