Potential timeline for Leon Draisaitl's next contract leaked

Buckle up, Oilers fans!

Still dealing with the disappointment of coming within one game of completing a historic reverse sweep in the 2024 Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers, the Edmonton Oilers have already made several changes to their roster in terms of additions and subtractions, bringing in a handful of new faces while bidding goodbye to others.

But one of the more intriguing story lines has been the future of star forward Leon Draisaitl, who has one year remaining on his current contract and could be in line to sign what could potentially be the highest AAV for a deal in League history.

"Oilersnation" podcaster Tyler Yaremchuk opines that there is a certain level of trust between the two sides and that a contract should get worked out sooner than later.

"I think that also, you know, probably shows there's a pretty high level of trust between the two sides. Like if there was concern from the Oilers' side, that Draisaitl was gonna, you know, back out or change his mind or something was gonna go wrong, then," he said.

"Yeah, maybe they would be under some pressure to, kay, on the heels of getting that close to a Stanley Cup. Just get it done as fast as you can. But I think these two sides probably know they're going to find common ground at some point," Yaremchuk continued.

"And it'll be, you know, not easy to do, but you can kind of see the path towards how they're going to get a deal done. So, yeah, I have no problem with them waiting. I mean, announce it on August 31st. Wait till September, when he's back in town for camp."

Ultimately, he feels as though the new contract will get worked out prior to the upcoming 2024-25 NHL season.

"Like to me, this is going to get done before the beginning of the season, and there's really no reason to rush and no reason for fans to be concerned that this thing isn't done yet," Yaremchuk added.
