Players, goalies and coaches all get involved in wild brawl.
All hell breaks loose.
All of this over what appeared to be a pretty clean hip check.
Over the weekend fans who tuned in to watch the Carolina Thunderbirds take on the Watertown Wolves in the Federal Prospects Hockey League were treated to a wild scene when all hell broke loose between the two teams involved in the game. It is the kind of thing you simply would never see at the highest levels of hockey in the modern day, purely due to the fact that everyone involved would likely be facing major fines, or perhaps even permanent suspensions from the league entirely.
The Wolves were down by a significant margin, 4 - 0, after just 25 minutes of hockey had been played and no doubt they weren't very happy about it, and it seems that a clean looking hip check proved to be enough of a spark to cause a major blow up on the part of the wolves. The hip check wasn't even a particularly hard hit, but it would prove to be enough to lead to what initially looked like just a fight, but one that would devolve into much, much more.
After the fight began players from both teams were quick to get involved and as more and more players got involved the tension in the building became palpable. It seemed to cool down for a moment before, seemingly out of nowhere, the two goaltenders who had skated back to their respective benches decided to get involved. In spite of the officials trying to seperate the two goalkeepers we would get a full on goalie fight in the middle of this mess, and even after the officials managed to regain some semblance of control this one was far from over.
Next up it was the coaches and the trainers who would get involved, as objects were being thrown from one bench to another, with several of them needing to be restrained and eventually escorted out of the building altogether over the altercation.
The whole thing lasted well over 2 minutes, an eternity in a scenario such as this one, before eventually calming down. Members of both teams would end up being ejected, including both goaltenders, and thankfully the entire thing was caught on video.
