Player Safety comes down on Conor Timmins after cross check to Brandon Tanev.

The National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety took notice of Timmins' dangerous cross check on Sunday night.

The National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety has seen fit to hand down some additional punishment to Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Conor Timmins.

On Sunday night, the Maple Leafs traveled to Seattle to take on the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena and during the course of that game Timmins took some liberties with Kraken defenseman Brandon Tanev. Timmins would deliver a relatively harmless looking cross-check to the lower back of Tanev, but the timing of the blow is what turned a minor blow into something far more dangerous.

The cross-check would send Tanev awkwardly into the boards and the veteran defenseman would bounce up immediately as he charged Timmins looking for a measure of revenge. Here's a look at the replay:

Timmins was awarded a penalty on the play but the league felt that more punishment was warranted, and on Monday it was announced that Timmins would receive a maximum fine of $2,864.58. The fine won't be a huge deal to a player on an NHL salary, but Timmins will now be considered a repeat offender should he land himself in hot water again within the next 18 months.
