On Friday, the Toronto Maple Leafs announced that they would be parting ways with longtime general manager Kyle Dubas. The decision, which was explained by president Brendan Shanahan during a press conference that very same day, has sent the Maple Leafs front office into a state of chaos but it would seem it has also had an impact on other team's around the league.

On Saturday, reports emerged indicating that the rumblings of Dubas being linked to the Pittsburgh Penguins were 'more smoke than fire'but it would appear that the situation is a fluid one. The latest update, which comes courtesy of National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman, indicates that the Penguins have had quite the change of heart since the news of Dubas' firing went public.

"This is what I think is going on there... Pittsburgh is deep in their search and at the very least now I think they are gonna reach out and gauge what [Dubas'] interest is," said Friedman on Hockey Night in Canada.

Friedman admits that he isn't sure Dubas himself would be interested in the role, but it does sound like the Penguins are going to at least attempt to lure Dubas to their organization.

"I don't know what the answer to that question is," admitted Friedman. "But I do think the Penguins are gonna reach out to at least get permission to talk to him and see where he is."

The firing of Dubas has stunned many around the National Hockey League, and it would appear as though rival teams are going to quickly look to take advantage.
