Everyone is one the edge because with less than two weeks to go prior to the trade deadline, some players could be on the move. And on Tuesday night when Arizona Coyotes forward Phil Kessel was pulled from the game against the Red Wings in Detroit, fans assumed he was on the move.
Well, he was, but only because he went to catch a plane to rush back home to Arizona for the birth of his first child.
He played his shift and got first pumps from teammates before leaving the ice. That way, his consecutive games played streak remains alive at now 956.
Back in November, Kessel’s longtime partner Sandra Pereira had revealed in an Instagram post that she was expecting.
“IT’S HAPPENING,” Pereira said in the post that featured her and Kessel holding hands with her pregnant belly exposed.
This is a life-altering event for the 34-year-old, who has been with the Arizona Coyotes since 2019. Prior to that, he was with the Pittsburgh Penguins with whom he won two back-to-back championships in 2016 and 2017. He has also played from the Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs.
While a trade is also altering for the career, we bet that Kessel is excited about this wonderful news. However, he would like to be traded, since he demanded out of Arizona as the Coyotes are looking to rebuild and did mention in the past that Kessel was not part of the plans.
Maybe a trade is next, but for now, a mini Kessel joins the world.
