There is no doubt that Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby and forward Evgeni Malkin have a special bond, and fans and reporters have seen it on and off the ice. One witness to this special relationship has been Pens head coach Mike Sullivan, who was asked about this superstar players on Friday and couldn’t help but gush about the two and their friendship and the dynamic they shared.

“They remind me of siblings, the way they interact with each other.”

Crosby and Malkin have been playing together ever since the former was selected first overall in the 2005 NHL Draft, while Geno had been waiting to kick off his career in America following his 2004 draft and the unfortunate league lockout. This is a long time to create a strong friendship and perfect their game together.

For this season ahead, Crosby will be centering the top line and Malkin anchoring the second line as the Penguins will look to change their fate and make the postseason after missing out on the playoffs for the last two years.
This is now of never for both Crosby and Malkin to make it all the way in the Stanley Cup final and perhaps winning a fourth championship together before hanging up the skates.

The two have always been close and it’s great to see that the strong bond remains. Two summers ago, Crosby made a visit down to Florida to visit Malkin and check on him while his close friend was dealing with contract negotiations. Five days after defenseman Kris Letang signed a six-year contract extension worth $36 million, Geno signed a four-year, $24.4 million contract, right after news leaked that Malkin intended to test free agency. Crosby didn’t want to see that happen, and now the trio remains in Pittsburgh for the next seasons and the vibrant hope to win another championship.

When Sid signed his new contract extension last month, Malkin was asked about it and mocked his buddy on how he would want to celebrate his new contract.

As Sullivan said, they sound like siblings.
