Habs star Patrik Laine reveals the hardest hit he ever received in the National Hockey League.
Montreal Canadiens star forward Patrik Laine has experienced a lot during his National Hockey League career so it was interesting to hear him recently discussing the hardest hit he has received during his time in the league.
Laine was recently a guest on the Spittin Chiclets podcast and it was there that he was asked about the hardest hit he's every received in the NHL. Laine didn't hesitate even for a second when asked the question with one hit immediately coming to mind, a massive body check he received during his time as a member of the Winnipeg Jets.
"It was my first year, we played in Buffalo, Jake McCabe just absolutely put me in a body bag," admitted Laine.
Laine even went so far as to describe how he was totally knocked out by the blow, losing all memory from the moment of impact until he later woke up in the locker room.
"I remember getting a backhand pass... and my next memory is waking up in the room," said Laine. "In between? Nothing, I have no clue what happened."
Laine also went on to add that the hit from McCabe was definitely a wake up call for him, his welcome to the NHL moment if you will, and it seems fair to suggest that McCabe may very well be the reason that Laine hasn't been hit like that ever since.
"That was interesting," said Laine. "That was kind of a 'Welcome to the league little kid' moment."
If you haven't seen the hit Laine is talking about, don't worry I've got you covered. You can view it in the short clip below:
