Patrik Laine injured in preseason game after knee on knee.

Patrik Laine goes down with an apparent injury after knee on knee contact against the Maple Leafs.

This does not look good for the Montreal Canadiens.

The Canadiens made a huge move this summer when they went out and acquired struggling forward Patrik Laine in a trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets, taking a relatively big risk in the process. Laine had only played a total of 73 regular season games over the past two seasons, and unfortunately it looks as though that risk may not be paying off.

On Saturday night, during a preseason clash against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Laine would go down after he made knee on knee contact with Maple Leafs rookie Cedric Pare. Pare, a 25 year old centerman that has never played a regular season game in the NHL, was attempting to stop Laine from crossing over the blue line when the contact happened.

Unfortunately it was apparent that things had gone badly for Laine immediately, as he crumpled to a heap on the ice and immediately began clutching at his injured knee.

Here is a look at the replay:

Unfortunately for the Canadiens, Laine would head back to the locker room following the knee on knee contact and I do not expect that he will return to tonight's game based on how he reacted to the injury on the ice.
