P.K. Subban calls out Cedric Pare and the entire NHL.
P.K. Subban goes off on a rant after a knee on knee hit that knocked Patrik Laine out of the game.
Former Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban is hot!
Subban was in attendance at the Bell Centre on Saturday night when Montreal Canadiens star forward Patrik Laine was injured by a knee on knee hit courtesy of Toronto Maple Leafs centerman Cedric Pare, a hit that would knock Laine out of the game entirely.
Many fans were upset with the hit from Pare, a career American Hockey League player, and it would seem that Subban finds himself among that contingent. On Sunday, the former NHL star took to social media and went out of his way to tell Cedric Pare exactly what he thought of his controversial hit on Saturday night.
"Cedric Pare, I didn't go to the game last night to watch him play," said Subban in a moment of brutal honesty. "I'm paying admission to watch Patrik Laine play, not him."
Subban argued that the National Hockey League as a whole needs to show more respect to the superstar players in the game today, with Laine obviously at the forefront of his mind when discussing the topic.
"Patrik Laine deserves a lot more respect than the way he was treated last night," said Subban. "That should have never happened. Where is the respect for Patrik Laine? Where is the respect for superstars playing in the National Hockey League? I don't see it."
"There can't be any cheap shot on our superstars."
Subban also called out Pare for refusing to answer the bell after delivering the knee on knee hit, feeling that he left Arber Xhekaj with no choice but to "jump" him when he refused to drop the gloves.
"Cedric you've got to fight," said Subban. "You can't walk away. Poor Arber Xhekaj doesn't know what to do."
Subban again reiterated his point about superstars being the attraction and argued that the league needs to do more to keep them safe from plays like the one Pare made on Laine on Saturday night.
"People pay big money to watch the superstars play," said Subban. "We gotta keep them on the ice, there's gotta be respect."
