One of the major decisions that Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman has ahead of him is the future of current captain Dylan Larkin. The popular and long time Red Wings forward is a true example of a homegrown talent, a Michigan native who attended and played for the University of Michigan before being drafted by the Red Wings.

Upon latest report, it appears as though the two sides are around $1 million apart in their negotiations, according to long-time Red Wings corespondent Helene St. James of The Detroit Free Press. This also comes on the heels of another report that Yzerman is allegedly willing to play hardball with Larkin and not budge on his current offer.

It's certainly a much different way of doing things than former Red Wings general manager Ken Holland, who gladly overpaid for players while also usually attaching a No Trade Clause to the contract.

If the two sides are hypothetically unable to come to terms on a new deal, Yzerman could look to deal Larkin at the NHL Trade Deadline next month rather than potentially lose him for nothing this summer on the free agent market. And according to a recently released report from Boston Hockey Now, the NHL-leading Bruins could have interest, especially after they were unable to pull the trigger on acquiring former Vancouver Canucks captain Bo Horvat.

"Could the Red Wings’ interest in Horvat pave the way for the Bruins and other NHL teams to make a push for Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin?

(Larkin) would blend right in with (Patrice) Bergeron and (Brad) Marchand for now. He’s still only 26 and has plenty of game left in him,” an NHL source told BHN. “I think he’s a Don Sweeney type player too. The two questions obviously are: Will he waive his no-trade and will he give them a chance to extend?”

"'By all accounts, it doesn’t look good for Dylan Larkin staying in Detroit,” the source said of the negotiations between Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman and the pending unrestricted free agent. “That’s why they’re exploring other options there.”

Red Wings fans, what would it take for you to deal the current captain and face of the franchise?
