Oilers lose member of Stanley Cup dynasty

One of the key pieces of the legendary Edmonton Oilers Stanley Cup-winning dynasty of the 1980's as well as being hugely responsible for the team drafting several franchise icons has passed away.

Barry Fraser, who worked for the Oilers from 1979 to 2000 as the director of scouting, has died at the age of 82. Over the course of his time with the Oilers, he made the final calls to draft the likes of Mark Messier, Kevin Lowe, Glenn Anderson, Paul Coffey, Jari Kurri, Grant Fuhr, Andy Moog, Steve Smith, Esa Tikkanen, Jeff Beukeboom, Kelly Buchberger, Kirk Maltby, Jason Arnott, Miroslav Satan, Ryan Smyth, Fernando Pisani, Tom Poti, Shawn Horcoff and Jason Chimera.

The Oilers released the following statement after the news was announced: 

"We extend our condolences to the family & friends of five-time #Oilers Stanley Cup champion Chief Scout Barry Fraser, who passed away in Edmonton this morning."
