Nicolas Aube-Kubel explains what happened when he dented the Stanley Cup

This is what he had to say:

On the opening of free agency on Wednesday, the Toronto Maple Leafs signed forward Nicolas Aube-Kubel, who is still having a great summer partying his championship with the Colorado Avalanche. The forward agreed to a one-year contract worth $1 million and met with Toronto media on Friday.

And of course, questions about the incident in which Aube-Kubel dented the Stanley Cup on the ice in Tampa Bay came up.
As you probably have seen more than once on social media since the Avalanche hoisted the Cup, Aube-Kubel dropped the prestigious trophy on the way to the team photo with virtually the whole squad waiting for him.

While it wasn’t the first time the Stanley Cup got bumped around, Aube-Kubel may have set a new record since the trophy has basically just gotten out of its case mere moments prior to his fall.

When asked about it on Friday in Toronto, Aube-Kubel explained how clumsy he’s always been and how it was almost guaranteed it would happen.

“I’m so clumsy. It’s part of my personality. All my friends were laughing about it. Some people were a little annoying by recognizing me that way, but it’s all part of it. I think it’s just funny.”

It’s a good thing everyone is having a good laugh about it and maybe Aube-Kubel feels better about it now that he is not the only Avalanche player to have mess up the Stanley.

As Colorado was partying after the parade in downtown Denver, footage of Kurtis MacDermid hoisting the trophy one second, and then falling backwards with the Stanley Cup staff rushing to save the hardware and then the drunken man…
Better laugh about it then cry about it, no?
