Nick Cousins goes knee on knee with Jacob Quillan as his family watches on.
Nick Cousins continues to cement his reputation as one of the most reviled men in the NHL.
You can add this to the long list of reasons you probably don't have a great opinion of National Hockey League forward Nick Cousins.
On Saturday night, during a clash between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators, Cousins would go knee on knee with 22 year old rookie forward Jacob Quillan who was playing in his very first NHL game. It was a pretty ugly looking play, one in which the replay appears to show Cousins sticking his knee out after Quillan quickly moves out of the way of an incoming hit from Cousins.
Making matters worse is that the Quillan family was on hand to watch young Jacob make his NHL debut and you could see the anguish on all of their faces as the camera panned over to them following the collision with Cousins. Here's a look at a replay of the incident:
Cousins has earned a reputation as a pretty dirty player in the NHL, even being labelled a "rat" by some of his peers, so I don't expect that there will be many looking to give him the benefit of the doubt regarding this incident.
The good news here is that despite the devastated looks on the faces of the Quillan family, it appears as though Jacob is going to be just fine with the kid not missing so much as a single shift thus far.
Cousins hasn't been so lucky however with the Senators officially confirming that he will miss the remainder of tonight's game as a result of a lower body injury. It seems clear that Cousins got the worst of the knee on knee collision he had with Quillan, although there's no word yet on just how serious the injury to Cousins might be.
Stay tuned.
