The contract holdout of Nicholas Robertson may be coming to an end.

On Monday morning National Hockey League insider Darren Dreger was a guest on TSN's First Up, and it was there that he shared his belief that Robertson's holdout was coming to a close.

"I believe that they are gonna get something done," revealed Dreger on First Up. "That Nick Robertson is likely going to return to the Toronto Maple Leafs."

Robertson has understandably been frustrated given his inability to establish a real foothold on the Maple Leafs roster, something that was complicated at times by his waiver-exempt status resulting in him being frequently sent down to the American Hockey League. That frustration has likely been amplified by seeing the success his brother has had as a member of the Dallas Stars.

Dreger believes however that, despite these challenges, Robertson is likely to sign thanks in part to a productive conversation with newly appointed Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube.

"I know that he had conversation with Craig Berube and Berube assured him that look 'Take a look at our left side man' there's nothing but opportunity in this lineup with the holes that they have there," said Dreger. "I know that Berube assured Nick Robertson that he would be given a chance."

Complicating matters for Robertson may have been a relative lack of interest in his services from other teams around the league.

"I'm sure that [Brad] Treliving has explored what sort of interest there is in Nick Robertson across the league and frankly I don't think there was a ton of interest," said Dreger.

Dreger once again reiterated his belief that Robertson will be staying in Toronto.

"I think they are gonna get something done, I think this has been managed properly," said the insider. "It sounds like he's leaning more to recognizing what he has in Toronto and making the best of the situation, that's probably gonna sort itself out in the days ahead here."
