NHL refs miss blatant call on Friday night, leads to a goal.

An example of very poor officiating on the part of NHL officials on Friday night.

Critics of the National Hockey League's officiating were up in arms on Friday night after a seemingly obvious call was missed, and in turn resulted in a goal that nearly changed the outcome of the game.

The Anaheim Ducks traveled to Colorado on Friday night to take on the Avalanche, and it would be late in the first period where the controversy would occur. Just moments prior to Ducks forward Ryan Strome scoring to give his team a 2-0 lead over the Avalanche, the Ducks would dump the puck deep into the Avalanche zone with the puck appearing to clearly go over the glass.

As you can see from this replay angle, the puck very clearly bounces of the netting, but it was seemingly missed by every official on the ice.

Unfortunately for both the Avalanche and the on-ice officials, that would lead to Strome scoring just seconds later at the other end of the ice.

The Avalanche have had a terrible start to the season going 0-4 prior to last night's game, and the mistake from the officials could very well have seen them starting the season with 5 straight losses. In the end the only thing that prevented them from doing so were some overtime heroics from Avalanche captain Nathan Mackinnon who scored the game winner on a terrific individual effort.

Definitely one the NHL officials would like to have back.
