On Friday, the National Hockey League and its Player Safety department announced that two players have been fined for actions taking place during Thursday night’s busy schedule.
The first announcement revealed that Arizona Coyotes top forward Clayton Keller has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for Cross-checking Ottawa Senators’ Erik Brannstrom.
Keller was penalized and ejected from the game in Arizona when he brutally shoved his stick hard into the face of Brannstrom. The play was reviewed and Keller was sent off with a game misconduct. Before Keller delivered his dangerous cross-checked, insiders noted how the forward had absorbed two cross-checks from Erik Brannstrom before retaliating.
Moments later, another announcement was made by the NHL, stating that Tampa Bay Lightning’s Mikhail Sergachev has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for Roughing Vancouver Canucks’ Conor Garland.
Sergachev was caught punching Garland right in the face after the whistle in last night’s Bolt’s 5-4 victory over the Canucks. This is the incident that costs the defenseman $5,000.
These are today’s announcements by the NHL’s Player Safety department. A few dollars for those star players going into the NHLPA Player’s Emergency Assistance Fund
