NHL comes down on Stars for CBA violation over the holidays.

NHL insider confirms that the hammer is coming down on the Dallas Stars organization.

The Dallas Stars will in fact face the judgement of the National Hockey League for a violation of the collective bargaining agreement between the NHL and National Hockey League Players Association that occurred over the holidays.

It was actually Stars head coach Peter DeBoer who landed his team in hot water by scheduling an impromptu optional skate on the 26th of December, during the collectively bargained holiday break, and later admitted to reporters that he had done so.

"Optional, yeah," said DeBoer when questioned on the topic. "Voluntary ice."

Optional or not holding the practice at all would have been a violation of the collective bargaining agreement and DeBoer admitted over the weekend that he believed the NHL was looking into the matter, which meant potential discipline forthcoming for the Dallas Stars organization.

"I'm assuming if the League's looking into it, I made a mistake somewhere there," admitted DeBoer over the weekend. "We'll see what that investigation comes up with."

Well we now know that the investigation has, unsurprisingly, uncovered that the Stars did in fact violate the collective bargaining agreement and we now know that punishment is indeed forthcoming.

On Sunday morning, NHL insider Darren Dreger reported that the Stars will be fined for violating a rule that strictly prohibits both on-ice activities and travel on specified dates during the holidays. It is unclear just how hefty of a fine the Stars are facing and the specific details of punishments for violations of this nature are not always fully disclosed to the public.

Historically we have seen fines of up to $100,000 disclosed for violating this very same rule, so the Stars could be looking at a rather significant punishment themselves given the rather blatant nature of this recent rule violation.
