NHL announces outrageous pricing for new 'authentic' jerseys.

The National Hockey League has a new line of jerseys and it is going to cost you an arm and a leg.

The National Hockey League has made a very significant announcement when it comes to the sale of their jerseys, including a new price point that I fear will make the product inaccessible to some fans.

NHL insider David Pagnotta reported on Saturday morning that the NHL and their apparel partner Fanatics have unveiled their new portfolio of jerseys, with the league effectively creating 4 tiers of jerseys that will now be sold to fans.

My concerns here stem from the league's newest top of the line jersey which has been labeled the "Authentic Pro" tier, a tier that will run fans in the US a whopping $425 per jersey and a tier that will come in at an even higher cost for Canadian hockey fans who will be asked to fork over a whopping $500 per jersey.

That is a great deal of money for a sport that boasts what I would generally consider as one that has a more blue collar type of fan base, but thankfully the news isn't all bad.

As I mentioned there are now 4 tiers of jerseys available and thankfully the lower tiers will also come at a much more affordable price for fans who are willing to hand over that kind of cash for what at the end of the day is just a single article of clothing.

The "Practice" tier will see fans in the US paying $120 and $140 for fans in Canada.

The "Breakaway" tier will see fans in the US paying $135 and fans in Canada paying $160 or $175 in the US and $200 in Canada if they wish to add a name and number to the jersey.

The "Premium" tier of jersey will come in at $180 for fans in the us and $200 for fans in Canada or $230 in the US and $250 in Canada with the addition of a name and number like in the Breakaway tier.

While it is unfortunate that the league will be charging such a high price for the Authentic Pro tier of jerseys, at least there will be options for those who aren't able to, or simply aren't willing, to spend that much on a hockey jersey.

What do you think of the NHL's new pricing and tiers? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
