Nazem Kadri reportedly wants to “return” to former club

Could he soon be suiting up for his former squad?

Gritty forward Nazem Kadri has spent the last two seasons as a member of the Calgary Flames after he parlayed his Stanley Cup win in 2022 into a hefty new contract in Alberta.

However, the Flames have been thrust into a rebuilding effort - especially after the blockbuster deal that sent Matthew Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers in exchange for Jonathan Huberdeau and MacKenzie Weegar. The deal has been completely one-sided, as Florida has earned two straight trips to the Stanley Cup Final, winning earlier this spring.

Meanwhile, Huberdeau has struggled mightily in his first two seasons with the Flames that also culminated in the departure of several notable names. And right now, it looks as though Kadri could be one of the next players to skip town.

According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, Kadri would "welcome" being relocated to a club that he's already played for - or somewhere closer to his hometown of London, Ontario:

"My understanding with respect to (Kadri) is that he's willing to waive (the no-move clause) for the right situation. I think he would welcome a return to Colorado or farther East, somewhere closer to home."

Of course, Kadri spent the first portion of his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs before he was dealt to the Avalanche ahead of the 2019-20 season. He also has considerable time and compensation remaining on his contract, with five years and an AAV of $7 million.
