Morgan Rielly jumps Tage Thompson for rocking Auston Matthews!
Check out the spirited bout after Thompson SAT DOWN Matthews and Rielly took exception!
The Buffalo Sabres wanted a different result from the game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday night. The Sabres have been on an 11-game losing streak and are done losing.
However, after falling behind 2-0 against the Leafs in the first period, and having one goal disallowed, the Sabres also lost a fight.
Tage Thompson rocked Maple Leafs’ captain Auston Matthews at center ice, hoping it would boost the Sabres’ momentum for the last stretch of the first frame. However, defenseman Morgan Rielly saw the check and did not appreciate seeing his teammate pushed out. He immediately jumped on Thompson and picked a fight with the 6′6″ forward.
And he got the best of him.
The fact that Thompson is much bigger than Rielly didn’t even stop the blue liner who went after a giant with no hesitation to defend a teammate.
After the tilt and on his way to the penalty box, Rielly was greeted and thanked by Matthews, who appreciated his teammate's stepping up for him.
