More bad news on Quinn Hughes and Elias Pettersson, Sunday.

Things continue to get worse for the Vancouver Canucks with more bad news on Sunday.

The Vancouver Canucks have lost arguably their two best players to injury and unfortunately it doesn't looks like good news is on the horizon, at least not in the short term.

On Sunday, forward Elias Pettersson and defenseman Quinn Hughes were both notably absent from practice in spite of the rest of their teammates hitting the ice for a skate.

Both men have been out of the lineup since prior to the Holiday break with the last appearance for both men coming during a December 23rd game against the San Jose Sharks. Pettersson missed nearly the entire third period of that game after suffering some sort of injury, playing just a single shift in the third period and riding the bench the rest of the way through.

Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet expressed over the weekend that he didn't think the injury to Pettersson was too severe, but only time will tell if he goes on to miss additional game time as a result.

Hughes ate up 24 minutes and 25 seconds and played well enough to pick up a pair of assists during that game but suffered an undisclosed injury in the process. There has been no prognosis of any kind given for his return as of yet.

The silver lining here for the Canucks is that they still have some time off before their next game which will only come Tuesday evening when they take on the Calgary Flames in Calgary. That being said they will play 3 games in total next week with a game against the Seattle Kraken on Thursday and a game against the Nashville Predators on Friday so getting both of their star players back sooner rather than later would definitely be ideal.
