Monster trade scenario sends Elias Pettersson to New York!

While most people think Vancouver Canucks star forward J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson should just work things out and move on, others aren’t as optimistic and only see the saga ending with one of the two getting traded.

In recent weeks, Miller has been linked to different teams, more especially the New York Rangers, where he spent almost six seasons after they selected him back in the 2011 NHL Draft, but it’s been made quite clear that the Canucks have been in conversations with several teams regarding Miller and Pettersson. One of these teams is reportedly the New York Islanders as The Hockey News’ Stefen Rosner cites industry sources saying the team has inquired about Pettersson.

“The Islanders have 100 percent checked in, more than once,” per one source. “Pettersson and Horvat are very tight,”

While the Islanders may be eyeing Pettersson, there is also a strong belief that the Canucks are interested in defenseman Noah Dobson and could look to swap the player in a significant trade offer.

Rosner also points out that Vancouver is interested in forward Brock Nelson as well as prospect Danny Nelson.

There are a lot of pieces there for a massive trade scenario that could see Pettersson end up in New York next to former captain Horvat, who was sent to the Islanders on Jan. 30, 2023.

“Oh god, yeah,” was Horvat’s reaction when THN asked him about playing with Pettersson again. “He’s a special player. He’s a really good person. He’s a special player that I respect a lot. I’ve had a lot of good success with him, too, in the past. But yeah, if I get a chance to play with him again, I would love to. We could use him.”

The Islanders may become a top contender to land Pettersson, who I am sure would love to reunite with Horvat, however, he does not have a say in where he goes. He does not have any trade protection this season. His no-movement clause doesn’t kick in until July 1, giving Vancouver plenty of time to ship him wherever they want without his consent.

Pettersson, who last played on Dec. 23 and is currently dealing with an upper-body injury, is not living up to the $92.8-million contract extension he signed with the Canucks last season. He is a game-time decision for tonight’s contest against the Carolina Hurricanes.
