The Vancouver Canucks have been trying to move Conor Garland for the last 18 months. Agent Judd Moldaver is now representing the forward and Vancouver is hoping a deal could get done in the next few weeks. Ever since chatter emerged that Garland was available, the Nashville Predators, Winnipeg Jets, Washington Capitals and Columbus Blue Jackets have been linked to the 28-year-old forward. Some of them are believed to have held conversations with Canucks GM Patrik Allvin, but now David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period believes the Carolina Hurricanes and Chicago Blackhawks are also interested in his services.
The belief is that wherever Garland ends up, the Canucks will need to absord some of his $4.95 million annual salary. This led Pagnotta to hint at the possibility that a third team might be needed to make a trade happen when it comes to Garland.
“There seems to be some movement on the Conor Garland front; hearing a 3rd team could be in play. Talks with teams like the Predators, Capitals, Blue Jackets at least 1 more Eastern team are ongoing. The Canucks want this done sooner than later, but $$ is a big factor. How creative can they get?”
When it comes to the Predators, they could offer up Vancouver native defenseman Dante Fabbro. Columbus could look to tempt the Canucks with blue liner Andrew Peeke.
Garland was originally selected in the fifth round, 123 overall by the Arizona Coyotes in 2015. Through 324 career NHL games over parts of six seasons with the Coyotes and Canucks, Garland has put up 84 goals and 195 points.
Where will he go next?
