Toronto Maple Leafs star forward Mitch Marner continues to do himself no favors.

Mitch Marner isn't exactly doing himself any favors when it comes to public relations.

Marner's reputation took quite the hit this season after he once again largely failed to deliver during the Stanley Cup playoffs, scoring just 1 goal and adding a pair of assists as he and his Toronto Maple Leafs were eliminated in 7 games at the hands of the Boston Bruins.

Yet another playoff failure from this same core group of Maple Leafs led to many fans and pundits calling for a major shakeup in the team's lineup, with most pointing the finger at Marner as the most likely candidate. Although there were rumors that Marner would be moved over the summer, no such deal has materialized and it would seem that most now believe Marner will play out the final year of his contract in Toronto.

If Marner is indeed planning to stay in Toronto for the long term, he certainly isn't making any effort to endear himself to the media that has covered him during his tenure with the Maple Leafs.

The Hockey News' David Alter is now reporting that Marner effectively banned members of the media from attending his annual charity event, specifically citing the fact that both TSN and Sportsnet were asked by the Marner camp not to attend the event. Marner has welcomed the media to his event in the past, even during times where he was in the middle of difficult contract negotiations with the Maple Leafs, making this appear like an odd move to many.

I certainly don't expect that we will see either of those major networks going out of their way to give Marner favorable coverage if things don't go his way next season.
