McDavid mistake leads to first goal of Stanley Cup Final.

An early mistake from Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid has put his team in a hole in the first period of Game 1.

An overzealous attempt to apply pressure in the offensive zone has resulted in an early, and costly, mistake from Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid.

McDavid and the Oilers were desperately looking for the first goal of the series and were applying a good bit of pressure on the forecheck, but they would over commit and a great breakout led by Sam Reinhart of the Florida Panthers would quickly turn the momentum in the first period.

Reinhart would cruise past McDavid who had failed to notice that the Panthers were moving up the ice, with Reinhart feeding that puck to the Panthers' Aleksander Barkov. Barkov would make the best of his opportunity, feeding the puck with a great saucer pass to Carter Verhaeghe who scored yet another big goal for the Panthers in these playoffs.

McDavid wasn't the only Oiler to blame on the play, Darnell Nurse, Cody Ceci and Stuart Skinner could all have made a play on the puck prior to the Panthers scoring, but McDavid will undoubtedly be the focus.

Much will likely be made of this play should the Oilers come to lose Game 1 against the Florida Panthers.
