Max Domi comments on the return of a controversial figure to the National Hockey League.
There are a lot of things you can criticize Toronto Maple Leafs forward Max Domi for, but being a loyal friend definitely isn't on that list.
On Friday, Domi faced a barrage of criticism on social media after he publicly commented on the return of a controversial former teammate to the National Hockey League after it was revealed that former NHL defenseman Tony DeAngelo had been signed by the New York Islanders.
DeAngelo, arguably one of the league's more controversial players, had spent the entire season thus far with SKA St. Petersburg of the Kontinental Hockey League accumulating 6 goals and 26 assists for 32 points in 34 KHL games, was welcomed back by Domi with open arms in spite of the fact that Domi had nothing to gain by giving his former teammate with the Arizona Coyotes a shout out on social media.
Domi published a message to his Instagram story in which he gave DeAngelo a shout out when his return was announced.
"LFG. Congrats my brother," wrote Domi on Instagram.
In fact Domi was publicly criticized for previous comments he made regarding DeAngelo after he wished him well on his stay in the KHL, suggesting at the time that DeAngelo would be back in the NHL before long.
Not only was Domi right about DeAngelo being back in the NHL sooner rather than later, but it would appear that he was unphased by the negative backlash he received the first time around and continues to support his friend and former teammate despite the negative attention it may bring him.
Here's a look at just one of the comments Domi received when publicly commenting on DeAngelo the first time around.
Regardless of your thoughts on DeAngelo, it is pretty admirable that Domi is willing to stick by his friend through thick and thin even when it may not be the easiest or most popular thing to do.
