The brothers faced one another last night and the crowd got into the mix.

The Senators held their home opener on Thursday night, hosting the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers, but despite a 3-1 win for Ottawa, it was the crowd that stole the show.

Even Matthew Tkachuk would agree.

The fans were electric in Ottawa as they seem ready for the season, full of hopes and high expectations. Before the game got underway, fans in the stand starting chanting "Brady’s better" to taunt the older Tkachuk, and the Panthers’ star forward completely lost his focus and broke out laughing at their epic chant.

Matthew was at the bench, ready to take on the Senators, when the crowd got to it and made him lose control on his concentration prior to the game.

Unfortunately for Matthew Tkachuk, the Panthers were slow to get started in the first period and ultimately paid the price, allowing the Sens to jump out to a 2-0 lead and set the pace for the game. I have to wonder if the chant, that came back a few times during the contest, played a part.

Matthew recorded an assist on his club’s lone goal in 17 minutes and 27 seconds of ice time, while his younger brother played 20 seconds more, also put up an assist and ended the night with a +1 rating.

Before the start of the game, during warmups, the brothers got together close to the benches and took a family picture with Brady’s son for a nice souvenir of the contest. Which was won by Brady, who was better than Matthew that night.
