One of the biggest question marks for the Vancouver Canucks this offseason has now been taken care of.
Despite rumors that contract negotiations were about to be broken off, forward J.T. Miller isn't going anywhere, as he's officially agreed to a seven year contract extension worth a total of $56 million. The new deal carries an AAV of $8 million; he has one year remaining on his current contract at a cap hit of $5.25 million.
With 32 goals and 67 assists last season, Miller led the Canucks with 99 points. Miller has also spent time with the New York Rangers, by whom he was drafted 15th overall in the 2011 NHL Draft. He also played for the Tampa Bay Lightning before being dealt to Vancouver for Marek Mazanec, a third-round pick in the 2019 Draft and a conditional first-round pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
In 637 career NHL games, Miller has scored a total of 169 goals and 285 assists.
Meanwhile, captain Bo Horvat remains Vancouver's pending unrestricted free agent; his current deal also expires after this season.
