Maple Leafs surprisingly place two players on waivers!
A lot of action on the waiver in Toronto. Find out more below:
The Toronto Maple Leafs have just placed two of their players on waivers on Wednesday and one of them has a very important letter in front of his last name. That’s because the Leafs have placed forward Alex Nylander and defenseman Dakota Mermis on the waiver wire, per Elliotte Friedman.
The San Jose Sharks have also placed Valtteri Pulli on waivers for the purposes of contract termination.
There was already some action just prior to the Maple Leafs’ moves when the Edmonton Oilers claimed defenseman Alec Regula off waivers from the Boston Bruins on Wednesday.
When the Bruins placed Regula on waivers it was most likely in the hopes that the defender was ready for action. He has yet to play in the 2024-25 season due to injury after having knee surgery this past summer, and the waiver motion indicates he is ready to return.
However, he will do so with the Oilers.
As for the Maple Leafs, when they signed William Nylander’s brother Alex to a contract, he was expected to bring depth and added offense to the bottom six of the club. He has however recorded no goals since he was called up and signed, and with injured players making a return, Toronto placed Alex Nylander on waivers on Wednesday.
He was placed on the wire alongside Mermis for the Maple Leafs.
Nylander could eventually get another chance at an NHL roster, however, it was a beautiful story when the brothers were reunited in Toronto earlier this season.
