Regardless of the backlash that it caused, the National Hockey League proceeded with the decision to allow their teams to officially introduce sponsorships on their helmets and sweaters as a way of making up for revenue lost from the multiple game cancellations owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
For the Toronto Maple Leafs, they began to display the logo of the popular and sometimes controversial social-media platform TikTok on their helmets. But heading into the 2023-24 season, that's coming to an end.
“The Maple Leafs and MLSE are proud of the innovative partnership with TikTok and look forward to future projects together,” said Dave Haggith, vice president of communications for Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment told McGran in a statement.
