The Toronto Maple Leafs got two very important players back on Saturday night with both forwards Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies making their returns from injury, but they may now have lost one of their top defensemen to injury on the very same night.

The Maple Leafs faced off against Atlantic Division rivals the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night and may have lost the services of defenseman Jake McCabe during the second period of that contest. McCabe went down after he was struck in the head by a shot from the point, a shot that came from Lightning defenseman Nick Perbix, causing McCabe to immediately collapse to the ice.

Thankfully the National Hockey League's officials were on top of this one and quickly blew the play dead, realizing that McCabe had suffered a significant injury on the play. McCabe appeared to be barely conscious while sprawled out on the ice, not moving at all for several long seconds, but did appear to quickly recover after initially going down. McCabe would remain down on the ice for several moments while being checked on by a member of the Maple Leafs staff, but eventually got back to his feet and was able to skate away under his own power.

Here is a look at the injury:

Update: McCabe has been ruled out for the remainder of tonight's game.
