Maple Leafs lose David Kampf over the All-Star break.
Maple Leafs forward David Kampf will not be available after an injury setback over the All-Star break.
The Toronto Maple Leafs will be without one of their top defensive forwards for at least one game.
On Sunday afternoon, Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe confirmed that forward David Kampf would miss Monday's game against the New York Islanders due to an injury he suffered prior to the National Hockey League's All-Star break. It sounds like the Maple Leafs expected things to get better over the course of the break, but got bad news instead with Keefe indicating that Kampf is set to undergo an MRI.
"He got banged up a bit just before the break," said Keefe as per Leafs reporter Terry Koshan. "They weren’t happy with how it settled down over the course of the break. He’s getting an MRI today. Unavailable for tomorrow, day to day at this point until we find out more."
Injuries of this nature are always a cause for concern at the best of times, but for team's against the salary cap like the Maple Leafs it only serves to create additional headaches. The next few days, and the results of that MRI, will be important for the Maple Leafs.
Kampf has appeared in all but 1 of the Maple Leafs' games this season, a controversial healthy scratch on the part of Sheldon Keefe, and has 4 goals and 4 assists for a total of 8 points.
