Maple Leafs fans called out for disrespecting Johnny Gaudreau during tribute

The Maple Leafs did something classy, but some of their fans are being called out!

On Monday evening, the Toronto Maple Leafs held their first preseason game, against the visiting Ottawa Senators, and the organization decided to hold a tribute for Columbus Blue Jackets star forward Johnny Gaudreau and his younger brother Matthew, who tragically died when they were stuck and killed by a drunk driver while riding bikes in Oldmans Township, New Jersey, on August 29, on the eve of their sister’s wedding, where both brothers were to be groomsmen.

The Maple Leafs paid tribute to the Gaudreau brothers, but unfortunately, some fans came under major scrutiny at ScotiaBank Arena during the special moment of silence, 13 seconds to be exact, in honour of Johnny Hockey’s number.

During the very short time of silence for the boys, some fans very noisy during that time, and have since been called out on social media.

As you will see in the comments posted below, some fans who felt the need to make noise and ruin the moment of silence were called out for their disrespect, with most people wondering how they couldn’t simply shut up for the short 13-second span.

Some other fans are saying that the noisy people are simply saying nice things about Johnny and Matthew, though some of it is hard to hear, but I just want to say that they could have waited for the special moment of silence to be over to yell out whatever they needed to say.

We are likely to see more and more tributes for Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau across the NHL as the regular season nears and let’s hope fans will have the respect and decency to stay quiet and send their thoughts and prayers to the Gaudreau family.

And also remember never to drink and drive.
