Maple Leafs concern fans with latest move ahead of 2024-25 home opener
What is that all about?
The Toronto Maple Leafs caught the attention again on Thursday when they kicked off a mysterious promo on social media. As training camp is just around the corner, the team released a series of cryptic promos over the last few days, with the latest being the Maple Leafs featuring a profile photo with the usual Toronto fight chant “Leafs Forever” but with the letter “O” omitted from the phrase.
Then, a similar promo went up in front of the Leafs’ arena, with a photo of the arena’s advertisement for the team’s home opener by one fan who noticed the change and shared it on social media. The letter “O” was again omitted from every word in the promo.
The promo quickly became a talking point, with fans speculating on the meaning behind the missing letter. The underscore in place of the “O” has left many to wonder if the change is a teaser for something bigger.
Some speculations surfaces with fans wondering if it had to do with the game being played at home this season, in Ontario, while others believe it could be linked to their new captain, Auston Matthews. Breakaway OnSI reporter Nick Horwat hinted at the possibility of a campaign surrounding the passing of the leadership torch. Earlier this summer, John Tavares was stripped of the Maple Leafs’ captaincy when Auston Matthews took over the C in Toronto.
I guess we will find out more about the mysterious promo in the coming weeks. The Maple Leafs are holding their home opener on October 12th, as the Pittsburgh Penguins come to town. There are no hints of a connection to the Penguins in this cryptic promo in Toronto.
I guess we will have to wait and see.
