Maple Leafs booed out of their own building as Canucks make history.
The Maple Leafs were booed out of their own building on Saturday night as the Canucks made history.
Fans in Toronto who paid good money to watch a highly anticipated matchup between the Vancouver Canucks and Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night did not leave the arena feeling as though they had received their money's worth.
On Saturday night, the Maple Leafs faced off against the Canucks on Hockey Night in Canada in what appeared to be a game in which the Maple Leafs had the deck stacked in their favor. Not only were the Canucks experiencing some team drama coming into this one, but the Canucks also experienced severe travel issues that left them in a very undesirable position when it came to getting ready for tonight's game.
In spite of having some notable advantages coming into this one the Maple Leafs would deliver a lifeless performance in front of their hometown fans, one in which the Canucks appeared to cruise to victory eventually winning by a score of 3-0. That lack of effort is what appears to have rubbed fans the wrong way, with a loud chorus of boos audible from the crowd both towards the end of the second period as well as in the final several minutes of the game.
Making matters worse is the fact that this will go down as a historic loss for the Maple Leafs organization as it marks the first time in franchise history that the Canucks have held them to a shutout in Toronto.
Canucks goaltender Kevin Lankinen deserves a ton of credit for another strong performance, stopping all 20 shots he faced from the Maple Leafs on the night, but that will do little to diminish how the fans seem to feel about their team failing to show up on Saturday night.
