LOOK: NYI D Adam Pelech narrowly avoids gruesome injury after being cut by skate

You just hate seeing this.

This is something that you just never want to see, and sometimes also makes you wonder how it doesn't happen more often.

During tonight's game at UBS Arena between the New York Islanders and Wahington Capitals, Islanders defenseman Robin Salo became tangled with Pelech in the corner and inadvertently caught Pelech's lower leg with his skate blade:

Pelech immediately had to be helped off of the ice with the assistance of two team trainers. However, Pelech appears to have escaped what could have been a potentialy serious injury, as he's back on the Isles bench and has returned to action.

Fans may remember a decade back when then-Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson suffered lacerated Achilles tendon after being cut by the skate of Matt Cooke. Thankfully, Pelech seems to have avoided a similar fate.
